Wigmore Centers in India

Hello Jim,

I am in India for a while and was wondering are there any centers in India?

Thank you Arthur Collins

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here’s what I’ve been able to find out.

Dear James,

I do not know where she spent time, however I do have a number of her old manuscripts and books. One book: From Fat to Fit was published in India. the information I have from this publication is: Printed in India by Bro. Leo at St. Francis I.T.I., Borivli West, Bombay 400 092.

Here is the dedication from the book that has a number of names that may be tracked down: To my dear friend, Dr. Paul Dudley White, who appreciated the importance of a healthy body, mind and spirit. He spent his life opening doors for the people of the world, so that they could learn to take responsibility for their bodies through natural foods.

He was one of the first medical doctors to bring acupuncture techniques from China to the United States. His total open-mindedness and willingness to look at alternative and new ideas made him a most valuable contributor to our country. He made it possible for me to introduce the Hippocrates therapy program to many medical laymen.

We spent many enjoyable hours together giving health seminars; he sharing physical exercises and I sharing foods and nutrition with the participants.

Acknowledgements I want to give loving thanks for the help and support extended to me in preparing this book to the staff of the Hippocrates Health Institute and to Jaellayna Lasky and Heyzu for their contributions.

Blessings.

T. Colin Campbell of The China Study speaks in Florida

Last night, In Central Florida, we were honored by hearing from Dr. T. Colin Campbell, for the second time in the past few days, and this time in person, not just on the PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) interactive teleseminar for doctors. (see PCRM@PCRM.com for further information) The National Health Association's annual conference was being held and they deserve a big hand for allowing people like me, who are so busy that normally they can't get away for an hour, to attend free. There was an overflow audience. Many friends were there and many of them are Natural Hygienists. I hope you all hook into Raw Vegan Radio to hear Vik Kulvinskas' hour long interview about his take on the latter movement's dietary habits and the impending Sedona meeting of the Raw Spirit group. Computers have made the comparison of everyone's choices an instant subject of intellectual and wise discussion!

Dr. Campbell was animated and armed with very effective slides which told the tale, and impressed the audience with his thoroughly scientific proof that dairy turned on tumors/cancer and a plant-based diet turned them off, and on, and off, etc. It was amazing to watch the lines go up and down on the charts, depending on whether or not casein (the enemy in dairy products, the dangerous protein that causes our bodies [especially women] to initiate an immune system response and ultimate exhaustion). The story is simply put, that it's not the fat we have to worry so much about (although more than 2 ounces at a time is really stressing out your liver because it has to start storing it since it can't handle more than that at one time), but the dairy protein casein. So, even in skim milk usage, the cancer will still turn on, because even though the extrusion process breaks the fat cells down into smaller blobs, the protein casein is still in it and it will still lead us to the debilitating (correct spelling please, if necessary) diseases of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.

I was with the father of a friend of mine who loaned me her car because mine is out of commision (I need $1,500 to get it fixed and this is not a good time to come up with that kind of spare change!) and he needed to go so I missed the question and answer time and hope that was also taped so that I can hear it later. Please help this geniuis raw food doctor (who started out on a cattle farm, went to college to learn how to get more protein into the animals we were eating and who now has made a 180 degree turnaround, as he is now a raw vegan) assert himself with the government. He needs our support so that his careful studies and results can be pivotal in changing the disease care system we now have to a true health care system. Buy his book "The China Study" and prepare yourself to join him in this battle for our children's and grandchildren's well being and health.

The graphs and charts of the clusters of nordic countries like Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, down to England and then the U.S. show why we are so sick. The amount of dairy we use is horrendous. The cluster at the opposite end of the chart, starting with zero cancers in southeast asia (except for the people who eat raw fish, by the way) who are in real troubles now there), show how great a plant based diet is.

He is right on the verge of becoming a radical for health and he needs our support to confront the AMA and the federal government over this. We need to break down the FDA  (the Food and Drug Administration) into two separate parts, The Food Administration and the Drug Administration, because both are not able to be put in the same boat together. Please seek him out at Cornell University and give him your support. He has the material to force people who make the laws to wake up and make a difference in our health.

Gourmet Raw Vegan training in Atlanta

[Renata Dorner is Assistant to Dr. James Carey of chiDiet.com.
Last weekend, July 14th-15th, Renata and I went to Atlanta for a seminar on gourmet raw vegan foods. Gideon and Jackie Graff were kind enough to open their house to us, and we stayed as their guests and attended their two-day seminar.
Not only did we have a wonderful time, but we learned a lot. I've been living the minimalist raw living foods lifestyle - throw a bunch of sprouts and greens in the blender and call it a meal.
Jackie and Gideon showed me how easy it would be to prepare something more appetizing for guests - truly inspiring.
I could say a lot more kind things about the Graffs, but Renata was moved to write the following article and she's expressed my feelings completely - James.]

Oh WOW, What a Weekend it Was.

James_jackie_gordon_2 Jackie and Gideon Graff, the Sprout people from Atlanta (www.sproutrawfood.org) hosted a two-day seminar: How to Prepare Raw Gourmet Food. It was like Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas combined. What a feast it was!

We started out with an almond-carob-banana shake for breakfast which tasted decadent. The grande finale was lasagna and zucchini spaghetti with marinara sauce so delicious you will forsake the wheat version in no time. And every dish in between was superb, just the right spicing, texture and presentation.

I learned so many tricks and hints which make raw food preparation even easier than it already is. Jackie and Gideon prepared many, many different gourmet dishes which are readily duplicatable. The trick is to use prime quality ingredients.

A bit of splurging now and then is necessary once one has been on the healing path for a while and the body has regained strength and health. Remember when we were on the cooked food trip? How often did we go out and not think twice about spending our well-earned money on a meal which was not worth it and was actually detrimental to our health? So, some pine nuts here and there, some macadamia nuts instead of sunflower seeds give our palate enticing tastes and help us to stay on the raw food path.

Sometimes I simply need a bit more than greens, a little indulgence, a festive meal, something extravagant, exciting. That's what Jackie and Gideon taught us with lots of patience, explanations and detailed demonstration. No question - there were lots of questions - no question remained unanswered. With skill, laughter and sincere dedication the Graffs shared freely their many years of raw wisdom.

We were a wonderful mixed group, novices and veteran raw foodists. We swapped stories. One story was extraordinary: “From 22 to 2” - size 22, that is - the story of a young lady's weight loss when she switched from SAD to Raw. I hope James will get the whole story sooner or later, keep your eyes open. It demonstrates such an outstanding example how food choice and preparation influence our health and well-being.

Please visit chiDiet.com/graff for more pictures.

Thank you, Jackie and Gideon.

Brenda Cobb speaks at raw reunion

I had a wonderful, wonderful time last weekend. As regular readers will remember, last September I attended the 10-day program at the Living Foods Institute and had a wonderful, inspiring time.

Last weekend Cynthia Allf and some of the other students from my class put together a reunion at Cynthia's place on Amelia Island - near Jacksonville, Florida. Not only was it great to see the friends I'd made in Atlanta, but it was inspiring to see how well they've done Living the Lifestyle. Debbie Charles, in particular, was a new woman, she's lost so much weight! I'm hoping she'll write up her testimony and send us some photos.

Visits to the spa were great - at least for the women - and even I totally enjoyed our morning yoga on the beach.

The highlight of the weekend was a group shopping trip to the Organic Market (visualize herding cats), and a community food prep session for Saturday night's dinner. Wendy Sharon brought a complete series of recipes - from appetizers to dessert - and we had a truly Raw Gourmet Feast.

And then - to top off a wonderful day - we drove over to Amelia Island Resort where Brenda Cobb was speaking that evening. The scheduling that made this happen was totally synchronistic. We found Brenda very inspiring, or re-inspiring, and most of us got to share our testimonies about how Living Foods have changed our lives.

Sunday night promised to be interesting, too. Our group was to meet with the Raw Vegan group from St. Augustine, and go to a raw restaurant with them. Unfortunately, my schedule prevented me from making it to that event, though I'm sure it was rawsome.

Yep, I had a great weekend. Thanks to all of you who made it possible!

Program Review - Living Foods Institute

Last Sunday concluded my 10-day session at Brenda Cobb's Living Foods Institute, and it was wonderful!

Her school is in the heart of Atlanta. It's one of the few Raw Institutes that doesn't have a residential component. Students are expected to find their own housing; I stayed at a downtown hotel, which allowed me to see the sights in Atlanta.

Each day started in the kitchen with Yajna as our instructor. With 17 fellow students I learned to prepare living food recipes, right after our morning shot of wheatgrass juice. Each day started with us preparing Energy Soup (green smoothies), which we'd have as our breakfast, and we then went on to prepare our luncheon dishes. Each days' menu became fancier. We learned to prepare veggie kraut, crackers, almond milk, nut cheese, guacamole, salsa, cookies, veggie burgers and hummis (my favorite).

On the first day we were given a 200-page handbook that outlined the program and thoroughly covered the Dr. Ann Wigmore Living Foods lifestyle. As editor of the Raw Living Foods Home Study Program I was quite impressed with Brenda's textbook. Good job.

After our yummy lunches we had an afternoon of classes. Brenda and Jane answered questions that we had from reading the handbook, shared their personal testimonies, and lectured on Essential Oils, herbal medicine, emotional healing and many other aspects of health. We were constantly reminded, in a non-denominational way, that healing is Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual.

A number of outside experts also lectured in the afternoons. We learned about Massage Therapy and kinesology from a Chiropractor, a dentist did a presentation about the proper removal of mercury fillings, and Dr. Gail demonstrated our control over our personal energy fields.

Throughout the day there were a variety of on-site treatment modalities available, including colonics, reflexology, energy therapy, footbaths and chi machine treatments, which we all took advantage of.

Even though I've been teaching others about the Raw Living Foods lifestyle for almost five years, I learned a lot from Brenda and her staff. I especially learned a lot about food preparation. I discovered that most raw food dishes only take a few minutes to make, and that I can make up my meals for three or four days in a few hours. For a bachelor like me, that's great! Before attending the program I was just about living on energy soup; healthy, but monotonous.

Few programs give you hands-on time in the kitchen; Brenda's staff stuffs you into a hair net and plastic gloves, and you go at it. It was a very, very valuable experience for me, and I'm now well on my way to becoming a Raw Gourmet Chef.

Cost? Don't worry about the cost. Brenda will let anyone attend the program, and pay only what they can afford. In my case I paid only for my hotel room, and Brenda gave me a full scholarship to the program. My meals I ate at the Institute. Like so many in the raw foods movement, Brenda does this from her heart, to share with others the lifestyle that saved her life from cancer in '99.

Oh, yes. The police recovered my stolen Blazer and I picked it up just in time for my trip back to the farm last Sunday. Oh, it's in rough shape, having been in two accidents while it was gone, but my small tool box was still in the truck, with just the tools I needed to fix it up enough to get home. More important, my cherished mandolin was still in the truck. Funny, but the loss of the mandolin struck me harder than losing the truck. I learned a good lesson about being attached to material things.

Yep, my trip to Atlanta was quite an adventure, and I came back home RAWfully Inspired! Thank you, Brenda, and please give my love and gratitude to your warm, wonderful staff.

What Dr. Ann Wigmore's Raw Living Foods Lifestyle Did, and Does, For Me

by Dr. James Carey, PhD (applied microcomputer technologies)

For 23 years I lived in Key West, Florida, and built several computer companies. In '97 I sold off the business, apartments, office building, house, and most of the stuff I'd accumulated. By January '99 I was 48 years old, free and financially liquid.

I took a year or so off and toured the United States, traveled 60,000 miles, first with an Airstream trailer, and later with a Bluebird motorcoach.

I also spent the time overcoming my addiction to cigarettes, something I'd been dependent upon since I was 14 years old.

By Spring of 2000 I was rested, collected, and tobacco-free. I'd relocated to rural Georgia, adopted a dog, and started building a house with my own hands. I also weighed 260 lbs. I'd been watching my weight creep up over the years, from my college weight of 165 to around 220 by '99.

I considered myself healthy because at 45 I could still shinny up a 30 ft. sailboat mast and repair the masthead while holding on with my legs. But a year of sitting behind the steering wheel substituting junk food and rich meals for the cigarettes I was trying to give up really put the weight on me. Now I was almost 50 and single-handedly building a house.

I considered myself to be in good shape, I was active and pain-free, but I sure was getting big.

Jim's Before Picture
Jim at 260 lbs.
Jim's After Picture
Jim at 170 lbs.

So... January, 2001. New Year's Resolution - go on a diet. I read about health and nutrition, then put myself on a 1700 calorie-a-day vegetarian diet. I walked at least three miles a day, five times a week.

In four months I lost 20 lbs., bringing my weight down to 240. I kept counting calories in my little notebook, I kept walking 15 miles or more a week, and by Summer - still 240 lbs.!

I could not lose any more weight. Frustrating. If I went off my diet for a weekend in Savannah I'd gain 5 lbs. in two days, then take a week - or more - to get rid of it.

Back to the Internet for more research. I read about people who had been on one diet or another, but after initial improvements their health deteriorated and they were facing new health challenges because of the inadequacies of the dietary regime they'd adopted.

The deeper I dug, the more one program stood out. The Raw Living Foods lifestyle, taught by Dr. Ann Wigmore. It was old knowledge going back thousands of years, and she was the most famous of modern advocates. What impressed me most were:

1) Testimonies by people that have lived the lifestyle for 20, 30 and 40 years, and are thriving on it.

2) What does the founder look like today, or what did they die of? Dr. Ann died of smoke inhalation while fighting a fire, at 84. She was fit and healthy.

3) Other raw fooders have died as a result of sports accidents in their 80's and 90's, not of disease or medications. All maintained an active lifestyle up until their passing over.

4) Dr. Wigmore's Raw Living Foods Lifestyle combines raw living food, internal cleansing, body detoxification and plant-based supplementation. All of the elements of good health rolled into one.

5) There are hands-on training centers where one can go and experience the program for an extended period of time, and not just try to sort it out from books or weekend seminars.

6) Most hands-on centers are reasonably priced - I've paid as much for one night at a nice hotel for what they charge for a week's stay.

7) Dr. Ann Wigmore's program is educational, not "do this blindly because I say so." At the training centers they teach why the body isn't healthy, and what you can do about it. As an engineer and scientist, I appreciate this.

The more I looked at it, the more the Raw Living Foods Lifestyle stood out as being the program that would work for me - or for anyone!

Synchronicity also came into play. An old friend. When I mentioned Dr. Ann Wigmore's Raw Living Foods program she told me that she'd studied with Dr. Ann at Hippocrates Institute in Boston, and credited the lifestyle with changing her life.

August of '01 found me at Creative Health Institute, near Union City, Michigan. On a trip to visit family I stopped in for a three-day visit. I was so impressed with the personal experiences of the graduating students that I went back to Georgia, closed up the farm, and returned to Michigan to attend the two-week program. I still weighed 240 lbs.

In my first two weeks at Creative Health I lost 20 lbs. I never went hungry, I never missed a meal, I never counted a calorie. Indeed, I usually had seconds.

At the end of the first month I was down to 210 lbs. When I headed back for Georgia for Christmas I weighed 200 lbs. I'd lost 40 lbs. without even working at it!

Why did the program work so dramatically for me?

I was toxic. Not only did the organic, unprocessed food that Creative Health served reduce and eliminate the toxins in my body, Dr. Ann's program helped my body eliminate toxins that I'd been accumulating all of my life.

By eating processed foods, I'd been putting toxins into my body faster than my body could remove them. I learned that my body was storing these toxins in fat cells in order to protect me. Once I eliminated the toxins I was ingesting, my body was able to process the backlogged accumulation and dispose of it.

I also learned that I had a large amount of impacted fecal matter. Most people do. Enemas cleared out this backlog.

From '01 to '05 I spent three to six months of the year at Creative Health, helping out as a volunteer as I helped myself get healthier. I weigh 170 lbs. now.

The other reason I kept returning to Creative Health was the good feelings I felt when I saw others overcome their health challenges. I've seen people heal diabetes, obesity, arthritis, colitis, after-effects of chemotherapy, breast cancer, hepatitis, heavy metal poisoning, asthma, wounds that wouldn't heal, PMS, migraine headaches... all forms of health challenges.

I've seen people stop smoking, painlessly, in just a few days. They didn't even notice that they'd quit. Wish I knew that back in '99.

I've watched people perk up, heal, and get happy. Like Chantel from Zimbabwe. She came to Creative Health with rheumatoid arthritis, which she'd had since she was 16. She was 26. Upon graduation from the two-week program Chantel said, "I stopped taking my medication after I was here three days. I've not had any pain in more than a week."

With tears streaming down her cheeks, she added, "This is the best I have felt since I was 15 years old."

Some time later Chantel sent me an email: "While I am only 75% raw after these two years, I am not taking medication, and my pain has not returned. I am happy to tell you that I am now married and three months pregnant. Your program made this possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

What do raw living foods do for me?

Helped me lose over 70 lbs.,

Gave me an energy level that's like being 25 again (I even took up skydiving - at 52!).

Instead of sleeping 8-10 hours a night, I wake totally refreshed after only 4-6 hours of sleep.

My bowels are regular and move easily.

I'm happier - all the time. I have a more positive outlook on life. People say I "glow," and I smile all the time.

My taste buds have changed, and my cravings for snacks, sweets and caffeine have disappeared.

Most of all, I find my life more satisfying and rewarding than it's ever been before.

I try to help Creative Health in their mission. I've installed computers and a network, rewrote the website, taught classes, mowed the lawn, started a newsletter, served as Program Director, done public speaking, fixed toilets, painted, produced videos, answered the phones, stuffed envelopes, and told my story on TV and radio

When I was answering the phone at Creative Health I repeatedly heard people say, either:

1) I have the time to attend, but just can't afford it, or
2) Affording it is no problem, but there's no way I can take two weeks off.

For those reasons I created the Home Study Program. From a file cabinet with over three decades of research studies and student materials, and two decades worth of videotape, I spent my winters assembling the most comprehensive overview of the program I could.

I now administer the Raw Living Foods Home Study Program in order to help those who:

1) Can't afford to attend a center,
2) Want to have a comprehensive overview of the program to take home with them, or
3) Need training materials to help them share their wonderful transformation with others.

I'm finding it a great way to spend my retirement, and the second half of my life!

Nutrition tools

The raw vegan diet is the most nutrient-rich diet on the planet, but you need to ensure you're receiving every essential nutrient. There are over 50 nutrients our body cannot make and they must be eaten in foods. If these nutrients are missing, the body will eventually experience symptoms of disease.

The first step is to enter your daily diet into http://www.fitday.com. Fit Day will tell you which nutrients you're low in.

Step two is to head over to Nutrition Data to find out which foods contain these nutrients: http://www.nutritiondata.com/nutrient-search.html.

The Hippocrates Diet and Health Program by Dr. Ann Wigmore

Book Review: The Hippocrates Diet and Health Program
by Dr. Ann Wigmore
"This Book May Save Your Life!”

One of our most common problems is in understanding what to eat and when. This book COMPLETELY describes the types of food and why and how to eat them. Cancer, depression and autoimmune disease (to name only a few) like rheumatoid arthritis are the end result of chronic exposure to environmental toxins like solvents and pesticides AND chronic nutritional deficiencies from eating fast food and junk food.

“This is the most important book you can buy to teach you how simple it is to regain your health AND prevent chronic illness like cancer. This book forms the basis of how we should eat AND understand the life-saving principle of intestinal and liver detoxification. Read, learn, and live a healthy life!” - Reviewed by Dr. Craig Jones.

“Enzymes! Enzymes! Enzymes! This is one of the few books out there which teaches you how to take charge of your health in a very simple approach.... Basically it's all about enzymes which metabolize your food and which are needed for every function in your body. Without enzymes there would be no life in your body. Where do you find these enzymes? They are available by eating fresh organic fruits, vegetables, sprouts and nuts/seeds. After 20 years of trying different approaches to become healthier, this is the most significant one I've taken. It really makes a difference.” - An Amazon.com reviewer.

To order:

You are what you eat -- why you can't get healthy

Do me a favor before you read the next paragraph - go to your cupboards and refrigerator, and take a look at how many packaged food items you have in your kitchen. While you are there pull out a desert item (i.e. ice cream), a boxed item (i.e. breakfast cereal) and any other item you have that is flavored (i.e. salad dressing) and take a look at the labels. After reading the ingredients list, ask yourself:

   1. How many words am I unable to pronounce?

   2. Which of these ingredients have I never heard of and/or have no idea what it is?

Go take a look at those labels and, when you come back to finish this article, I will tell you why you may be having such a hard time flattening your abs, and why, even if they are flat, you may feel so dull every day!
