Dear Jim,
I must say that I am enjoying your newsletters and I read every word. I have been eating about 80 -90% organic raw food for six months now...some days 100% raw.
It is now winter here in New Zealand and I am just too cold to eat much raw. Every time I eat some raw food, even a grapefruit and orange, shortly after consuming it I get chills throughout my whole body. I have been told that my body type is Vata/Pitta and I shouldn't be eating a lot of raw food.
I must say that I enjoy the recipes, flavour and the fact that I have lost fifteen pounds without being hungry, but being cold and tired a lot just doesn't seem to suit me this time of year. By the way, I am in my early fifties.
What are your thoughts on this "cold" problem? Perhaps others are experiencing the same symptoms.

I forwarded this to Dr. Flora, and she responded:
Dr. Wigmore did not encourage people to eat citrus, which decalcifies bones, according to the research of Annemarie Corbin, who wrote Foods that Heal. I personally will not eat any citrus.
I want to keep a slight sweat on me at all times. Sweating is eliminating. A medical researcher once told me in SLC that we (our immune sytems) are fighting bugs all of the time and we need to not get chilled and to keep from going into and out of situations where the temps. are so different, and to stay warm.
Now that it's 90 here, I'm loving it. But, I eat fruits and green leafy veggies and a little seeds and nuts and no oils and so heat is not my enemy but my friend to keep me slim and not craving fats, like I do when I'm cold.
The reason Dr. Wigmore built her first Hippocrates Institute in Boston was that she wanted to show people that even in a polluted cold city one could get well.
She knew that the body (especially females) needed 85 degree F. temps to get well, so she spent $100/day heating the place and that's why she moved to Puerto Rico, where no heating was needed!
Fly north, little bird, and come to where you can live normally, not have to use unnatural methods to heat yourself to a healthy temperature. If the skin surface drops to 75 for any length of time, bad things will happen. Do some research on that.
Women are more sensitive to the cold than men and in situations where there is A/C, women will gain weight because their bodies are telling them that it's winter! You shouldn't feel tired. If your body is using up a lot of it's heat trying to get you to lose some weight by sweating, you will get tired.
If you can't come north, then wear some duofold undies and keep a hat on and wear 100% cotton sweaters.
Peace and Love,
I would like to put it to you Jim, I would like to see a Bulletin Board type plce where people from around the world who frequent this site can meet and write to each other. NZ is a small country and I would like to make email contact with other Kiwis who haunt these pages. Love and kind regards, Jackie

Thank you Cary for asking these questions and thank you Dr. Flora for answering the questions. It is a fact of life that 99% of us cannot afford to fly North...if only! But thank you for the helpful hints Flora.
