In addition to raw honey as a topical healer, raw pineapple can be used topically to speed healing and prevent infection. In tropical regions healers will apply it directly to open wounds. I've even read of a case where a Haitian cane field worker cut his leg to the bone with his machete, the only treatment used was raw pineapple, and he was back working in two weeks.
So packing a wound with raw pineapple, or even raw sugar, is a good idea, especially in the tropics where this abounds.
I have heard of cut limes to heal from New Guinea, and have personally used slices of lemon, orange and manderine that have satisfactorily treated and healed ulcers and wounds. I guess pineapple is in the same category by being acidic and rejecting harmful bacteria.
